Also, there's a priest actively calling for el papa's resignation. Of course, if I remember my history correctly the last time that happened was in 14 something or other when the papacy was moved to Avignon and there were 2 popes. I'm not holding my breath or anything. Also interesting to note that the Vatican gardens grow all kinds of things. Things like hemlock, nightshade, and foxglove. Also there is a precedent for the Church taking matters into their own hands. I believe that almost all of the early popes were "martyred." If there's a real danger of information coming out that Benedict XVI knew signifigantly more than he has been saying I wouldn't be overly surprised if Josef Cardinal Ratzinger had a sudden heart attack and then Habemus Papem! And a third Vatican Council comes quickly thereafter. Maybe we'll luck up and get a Jesuit this time around, but I doubt that too.

Listen carefully to me old devil, I'm only interested in two things. See if you can guess what they are.

Jade,

I can understand where you are coming from, however...

The weakness in your argument is it's basis on a diametric perspective; it seems you are implying that God has to be all-accommodating to our sense of fairness or preferences for comfort in order to be truly benevolent or just. Your hypothetical parent-child relationship is useful only to a point; doesn't a parent also have to allow their child to experience consequences in order to learn the value of responsibility, and failure and loss in order to learn value? A God who would smooth over every bump would just be coddling us, and we would never grow up to value life or who He really is.

I have no problems believing that the Big Bang's button was pressed by God. That would address life on a scale in proportion to the age of the universe and the greatness of an all-knowing deity. I have no problems with those who believe the Big Bang happened all by itself, too.

What I do find very hard to swallow is a 'global warming optimist' - a NASA scientist at that - who is busy proving the existence of God via his disillusionment with evolution and his staunch belief in intelligent design.

I want him to explain this graph.

Why does intelligent design always have to be simplistic?

That wasn't worth listening to at all... It was a crock of horse shit... Just fear mongering...

The fact remains that the Bill of Rights grants people protection from the government interfering with their free expression of RELIGION. This includes building a house of worship anywhere they want. (Unless it violates pre-existing zoning laws, which this Mosque does not.)

Now please do not misunderstand me. I'm the last guy who wants to see a Mosque there. Fuck that place. Fuck it up its stupid ass. But, I also cherish the freedoms this country gives to me (and everyone else). So fuck that guy for calling people like me a "coward" and whatever the fuck else he said in his "oppinion piece", he's a fucking loser...

And btw, where was he during Sept 11th? Nowhere near NYC I bet... Yeah, but I'm the coward...

How'd that old saying go, "Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you?" Maybe what this country needs IS a little fear. Islam is not a religion, it is a political system, operating under the guise of a religion, and has political/religious goals that are hell bent on our submission and/or outright destruction. It is an ideology that is incompatible with Western civilization, and its practice should be vigorously discouraged, if not outright banned. We ain't talking Pat Robertson's 700 club here. It is NOT just another religion. It is NOT some "other" form of Christianity Its goals are radically different. Christainty is out to save your soul. Islam is out to control it, and you, right down to the fucking hand you wipe your ass with.

Christianity, with all its faults, at least proposes the theological position of free will, the freedom to chose to believe and go to heaven, or not believe and suffer eternal torment in hell, or some such nonsense. While prone to abuse and confusion, (thanks to the schizophrenic duality caused by trying to integrate the Old Testament and the New Testament into a coherent whole) at least New Testament Christianity teaches forgiveness along with its command to spread its gospel. You won't find that in Islam. Islam=Submission. End of story. Do you think Islam gives a flying fuck about YOUR freedom of religion?

If you think you have nothing to fear from the Spread of Islam, paint a picture of Mohamed on the front of your house, and see where that gets you. The one with the bomb for a turbine might be a good one. Ain't scared are you?

There, that ought to get this board hopping.

First of all, Islam IS a religion. Sharia is the political/law system you refer to. The two are seperate and distinct entities, although they are ofter practiced together in middle eastern countries. But, heres the next problem. You say it should be "vigorously discouraged, if not outright banned."

Who are you to decide what gets banned? That is a slippery slope, because guess what: Jews tell me I can't eat meat and cheese in the same food, but I love peperoni pizza, so you know what? THEY WANT TO CONTROL MY LIFE! BAN EM! The Mormons in Utah tell me its ok to force children to marry young, and have more then one spouse, you know what? THEY WANT TO CONTROL MY LIFE! BAN EM! Hindus tell me cows are holy, and they want to stop me from eating a hamburger, you know what? You guessed it, THEY WANT TO CONTOL MY LIFE! BAN EM! See the problem?

The real irony to that little "news" clip was that if you think about it, its backward. He compares the current situation to WW2, saying the Allied countries were too afraid to act, even when they saw it coming. And, that the time to act (banning islam) is now. Well, not so fast buddy. A more appropriate annalogy to WW2 would be that these motions to restrict freedom were EXACTLY what Hitler did to grab power. And the German people fell for it. Anytime you give up a freedom, YOU are the one losing.

So, basically, I'm going to continue to live my life. I'm not gonna worry about Muslims. Or sharia. Or terrorists. I'm just gonna keep doing what I do, day in, day out. Sure, I have some extra ammo in the closet, but that is being prepared, not scared. So you know what, when it comes, BRING IT, but don't take my freedoms away in the meantime.

Wow. Just wow!

I understand how a mosque/cultural centre would be painful for some. It isn't meant to be a slap in the face. I honestly think that it is Islam trying to reach out and say. This is horrible. We lost people in Sept. 11 too, and we aren't talking about the hijackers. There were good honest Muslims that died there too. The idea that all Muslims are terrorists needs to die. Honestly. That is like saying that all Catholic and Protestants are terrorist based upon Northern Ireland. It's ignorant.

Has anyone read the Torah or the old testament. Have you ever seen the rule list that was compiled in there? The Jews have the ten Major commandments and than there are over six hundred more. The Christians aren't much better.

As for Islam being a political system rather than a religion. Do we need to go through the entire monarchy in the middle ages and renaissance? How the kings and queens were crowned by the church! How the legitimacy of their reign was based upon the blessing of the Church. They were running countries long before Islam came across.

Far be for me to defend it, but I have never met a Muslim that had a hate on for me.

I will paint a picture of Mohammed on my door. Than Jesus getting sodomized by Buddha, the fat one, while sucking off the devil. Sounds fair to me. See how many people I piss off.

From the article:

"In 2006, soon after violent protests erupted against the Danish cartoons, Stone and Parker produced a double episode that featured the prophet and was also censored by Comedy Central."

Ok, so, Comedy Central likes to keep its ass out of trouble. Fine by me.

"In that case, however, there was no pickup from Islamist groups."

And besides, it looks like real muslims dont really care anyway.

"The latest controversy has cast the light on Revolution Muslim, a group of probably fewer than 10 extremists based in New York who hand out leaflets outside the moderate 96th-street mosque."

Ahh... Ten freaking wierdos who hand out flyers! Fuck em. NYC is full of wack-jobs to preach, rant, rave, and hand shit out. I'm not worried.

"It was founded by Yousef al-Khattab, a former secular Jew born Joseph Cohen who ran a bicycle pedicab in New York until he relocated to Morocco."

Trust me, real Muslims are not taking a Jewish convert seriously anyway.

"I honestly think that it is Islam trying to reach out."

So, if they are HONESTLY trying to reach out and create understanding, and they see the uproar it is causing (latest pole: 71% of NYers feel the Mosque should volunterily move), why don't they offer to move it to a location were it CAN create outreach and understanding?

"This is horrible. We lost people in Sept. 11 too, and we aren't talking about the hijackers."

Umm, lets look at the victim breakdown by country. The only Muslim countries with victims in Sept 11th were Jordan (2), and Lebanon (3). For a total of 5 out of 2,977. That is not a very big number to me.

"The idea that all Muslims are terrorists needs to die."

No one is saying that all Muslims are terrorists. But, the Terrorists act in the name of the religion, so, having a prayer area to that religion, a few blocks away from the site of the worst terrorist act in this country, could be seen as a LITTLE insensitive.
