When the database reversion happened, avatar IDs were reset to an earlier state, but the converted avatar images for those IDs remained in place on the filesystem. ACLs prevented the uploader from replacing those files, but as a file check showed that a file existed for that avatar ID, it still told dil and two others that they had successfully uploaded an avatar and associated the image. Pushing the incrementer back to the proper place and reverting the previous collisions fixed the issue.
